Perelandra
In this book, Cambridge Professor Elwin Ransom travels to a different planet under totally different circumstances than his journey to Mars in Out of the Silent Planet.
This course is designed to provide students with an online community for reading Perelandra, the second novel in C.S. Lewis’s science fiction trilogy for older readers.
This is an asynchronous course with 10 lessons. There are no scheduled class meetings; all the instruction is included in the course so students can complete the work for each week at the times most convenient for your family.
Purchase grants access to the course for 6 months.
Structure
Lessons work through the novel section by section, providing videos with additional perspective on the content and literary qualities of the book. Students work independently at their own pace, with parents supervising at their discretion and grading the final paper.
Assignments
To help them engage and reflect, students are encouraged to keep a reading journal; participate in an online, written discussion group with questions for each lesson; and write a final essay when they finish the novel.
Writing prompts and helps are provided for students, along with grading materials for parents.
Book
Students should have a copy of Perelandra to read. There are several editions out there, as well as ebook versions and audiobooks. Since we’re not meeting in person, we don’t all have to use the same edition.
