Beginner Essay Writing

Bundle and save with this 3-course package for Grades 11-12 that teaches students the writing process and three foundational essays based on firsthand experience.

  1. Writing a Literacy Narrative (3 weeks) asks students to tell a story about their experience with literacy in an autobiographical essay.
  2. Writing an Evaluation (4 weeks) asks them to choose a subject of interest to evaluate in an analytical essay.

  3. Writing an Observation (4 weeks) teaches students to conduct field research about a person, place, or activity of interest and present their subject in an informative essay.

The Beginner Essay Writing Bundle is a good precursor to the Advanced Essay Writing Bundle, which focuses on more academic, researched essays and documentation of sources.

Purchase grants access to all 3 courses for 6 months.

All courses are asynchronous. That means there are no scheduled class meetings; all the instruction is included in the course so students can complete the work for each week at the times most convenient for your family.

Structure

Courses in this bundle feature an asynchronous, multimedia learning experience that guides students through the steps of the writing process with video lessons, readings, writing activities, and optional class discussion groups.

Students work through the lessons independently with parents giving feedback on the first draft and final essay. Reviewer guides and grading rubrics are provided for parents.

Textbook

The Little Seagull Handbook is recommended as a separate purchase that provides sample student essays, additional videos, a complete writing handbook and Norton’s InQuizitive, an interactive tool for practicing writing skills in a game-like format. This inexpensive resource is used in all Across the Page Writing Courses.
