Working With Biased Sources

When students do research, they run into the problem of bias again and again.

What’s the solution? How can you tell the difference between fact and opinion? How do you build a balanced perspective on a topic?

In Working with Biased Sources, students learn a method for evaluating bias when conducting research to learn about a current controversy. They practice using several tools to critically assess the type and extent of bias in journalistic sources, focusing on how to harvest information and perspective to develop a more complete understanding of the topic. Then, students write a short report reflecting on the process.

This is a 3-week asynchronous course. That means there are no scheduled class meetings; all the instruction is included in the course so students can complete the work for each week at the times most convenient for your family. Purchase grants access to the course for 6 months.
